The Montreal podcast that asks Dan Bingham, Senior Writer on Far Cry 6: “What cult piece of media would you recommend?” – as asked by Sam Fairbrother back in episode 240.
For some reason or another the Far Cry games have a way of getting plugged here on Go Plug Yourself. Whether it be Michael Mando coming on the show to talk about being Vaas in Far Cry 3 or Creative Director Alex Hutchinson on the show to talk about Far Cry 4 it is no secret that we love Far Cry and we love that these games have strong ties to Montreal video game makers.
So it was that I was delighted to get a call from Walter asking “Hey, do you want to have one of the writers of Far Cry 6 on the show?” Obviously I said yes and here we are.
Dan Bingham was (and likely soon will be again) a Montreal stand-up comedian who found a way to turn a passion for writing and video games into a career of writing video games. We talk all about the different layers and challenges of writing a game the size and scope of a game like Far Cry and we also talk about surgery quite a bit (in our defense Dan is at home recovering from a major hip surgery).
So sit back, relax on whatever hips are in your body, and enjoy the show!

Your favorite three people in Montreal return to the podcasting airwaves to remind you that indeed, Covid-19 is still a thing and if your name is Josh and you live in Alberta you should really be aware of that by now.
The world breathed a sigh of relief on Monday that they didn’t even know they were holding in when Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram all suddenly stopped for about 10-12 hours. I don’t even know how Jon heard about this happening since he’s stayed away from those things for years.
Jon’s re-watching Seinfeld which may or may not be the Genesis of modern comedy and we figure out how you end up at Bojack Horseman if you go through Arrested Development.
Do you remember that great episode of The John Laroquette show where he thought he wrote a really great book? We talk about that episode a bit and quite frankly we don’t even care if you don’t remember it. That’s what this show is.
Finally, Keith has been watching Midnight Mass and while the jury is still out boy was Episode 5 a lot of fun.
Also, you probably know this but we’ve got a little Patreon going on over there and for every episode of 9ES we publish a companion episode of 9ES Garbage Time. On this week’s Garbage Time we talk about wrestling and D&D as though that wasn’t predictable.
Enjoy the show!

So the last time we recorded an episode in the back of Grumpy’s bar was probably March 2nd, 2020. It was episode 202 with BOIDS. That was over 570 days ago.
That’s madness.
But all the same it felt tremendously special to be back at the back of Grumpy’s recording a podcast after a year and half of not doing it. So special in fact that we decided we didn’t want to overshadow the importance of the bar with a traditional “guest”, instead calling on none other than Walter J. Lyng to jump on this episode. Walter of course having recorded more episodes in the back of Grumpy’s with me than anyone else.
Also, I was right (well, I was wrong and then I was right) when I said we did an episode at about 1:00 am in the back of Grumpy’s. It was episode 42 with Mo Arora.
Anyhow, sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of a podcast being recorded at the back of a bar, the way it was always intended.

For at least a few minutes anyways.
At the top of the episode Mr. Machine Gun’s fame and relevancy levels are called into question. His most recent album “Tickets to My Downfall” came out only a year ago and hit #1 on the USA and Canadian charts and was certified Platinum with over 126,000 in record sales and he has a new album due out any day now.
He also played Tommy Lee in that movie “Dirt” that I don’t think any of us watched.
Enough about him though, we also talk about the Montreal Canadiens because somehow the NHL season is about to start again even though it only seems to have ended a few weeks ago.
Keith finally watched Catwoman, a movie that should have been called “A Cat-Woman” as it had nothing to do with the comics, and speaking of comics we talk about The DC villain The Creeper and Marvel’s “What If…” show on Disney +.
Since we are experts in lists, we take our critical list making eye to Rolling Stones Top 500 Best Songs of All Time on this week’s episode of Garbage Time, which is available as part of the 9ES Deluxe level over on our Patreon.

The Montreal podcast that asks Green Party candidate Sam Fairbrother: What is special about your favorite socks? That questions was asked by Jonathan “Jobi” Bouchard on our last episode which you can listen to here.
It has been less than two years since Canada last had a federal election but boy does it somehow seem like it was either just yesterday or an entire lifetime ago. The last time Canadians went to the polls to elect a government was in the Fall of 2019 and as you may know a lot has changed since then.
Back then we had the Green Party representative for NDG-Westmount Robert Green on the show and Lawrence was just a featured guest host. Now we have Robert’s successor Sam Fairbrother on the show and Lawrence is a full fledged Go Plug Yourself co-host!
We get through a lot in this episode, from Sam explaining various elements of climate change that you may not have considered in simple terms, the ongoing climate crisis, his road as an environmentalist and more.
Find out more about Sam on his website, learn more about the Green Party on theirs and if you haven’t voted in advance make sure to vote this coming Monday September 20th.
Enjoy the show!

The Montreal podcast that asks Jonathan “Jobi” Bouchard (one of the contestants on CBC’s “Race Against the Tide”): If you were stranded on a desert island, what would be the one song and one luxury item you would bring with you? As asked by Sue Montgomery back in episode 238.
Jonathan Bouchard probably spent his time on the beach as a kid the same way most of us do: building sand castles. However, unlike most of us, he never stopped. Known professionally around the world as Jobi, Jonathan is an accomplished sculptor and sand is just one of the many mediums to which he applies his craft.
And it’s his sand sculpting ability that landed him as one of the contestants on CBC’s upcoming show “Race Against the Tide” where competitors literally do just that. They have to create large scale sand sculptures before the massive tide of the Bay of Fundy sweeps them away.
Jobi joins Chris and I to talk about being on a reality show, the most common questions he is asked as a sand sculptor, sand sculpting competitions around the world and more.
Listen now and catch “Race Against the Tide” (hosted by friend of the show Shaun Majumder) starting September 9th on CBC and on demand at CBC Gem. Follow Jobi on Facebook at JOBi Sculptures.

The Fantasia International Film Festival podcast series by the good people of 9to5.cc is coming to an end. Sadface.
In this episodes the hosts of 9ES discuss: Agnes, Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched and Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes. Boy, we sure did choose some long movie names to cram into that episode image, didn’t we?
Once again this year’s Fantasia Festival is mostly online, with only a few films being screened live due to the ongoing pandemic that, spoilers, isn’t over yet!
The real horror was Covid-19.
I digress.
As we have since *checks notes* 2012, the 9to5.cc crew will be watching a whole bunch of Fantasia Festival movies and, as is our wont, we will be recording podcasts about them.
Sweet sweet audio reviews of some of the best of genre cinema. Normally we recommend you listen to these reviews while waiting in the long ass lineups waiting to get into the movies but since this year is mostly online maybe you just listen to them while you work or something?
I don’t know man.
As always, if you enjoy these shows, tell your friends and share the episodes and if you like the little thing we’ve got going on please consider checking out Go Plug Yourself and 9ES, the podcasts we run all year long. If you like our shows, please subscribe.
Enjoy the episode!
