Green Phantom Returns – GPYS 306

The Montreal podcast that asks The Green Phantom (Hardcore Hero, Canadian Table Breaker, Wrestling Legend): Did you ever shoplift as a kid? That question asked by Coolopolis Montreal’s Kristian Gravenor back in episode 304.

It’s been a few years since we’ve had Green Phantom (or “Phantom” to his friends) on the show but the door is always open for him to return. It has to be, otherwise he will just kick it down. As always this episode is a must if you’re an indie wrestling fan. Green Phantom shoots on greedy promoters, shares stories about wrestling legends and gives us a run-down of his tour of wrestling in Japan! He teamed up with Violent J from the Insane Clown Posse!

Walter J. Lyng returns again to co-host and as tends to happen Troy Stark comes along for the ride.

You can catch The Green Phantom in wrestling action next month celebrating his own very special, very violent holiday tradition: The Hardcore Holidaze Match! Go Plug Yourself: Chris Venditto Returns!

Don’t call it a comeback! Loyal Go Plug Yourself listeners have noted that we haven’t had Chris Venditto on the show in a couple of months. He’s been on our Long Term Injured Reserve list for the last few months while he took care of a few things but guess what?

In all seriousness it was extremely special for me to be able to have Chris back with us at the back of Grumpy’s and I thought we should celebrate his return by not having a “usual” guest and instead getting Walter J. As occasionally happens when you’ve been podcasting for over a decade – sometimes a guest drops off the face of the planet (or the island of Montreal) and you’re left on a Wednesday night before a long weekend without a new episode of Go Plug Yourself.

Here it is, the episode you’ve all been waiting for! Montreal’s longest running English language podcast is celebrating its 150th episode in style! Recorded live at Mainline Theatre on St-Laurent Boulevard, Walter and I welcomed a parade of some of the most talented Montrealers ever to grace a single episode of a podcast!

Joining us for the whole episode is none other than our resident musically talented friend (and provider of our theme song) Leighland Beckman!

The first guest on our show is none other than our French language podcast counterpart Yannick Belzil from 3 Bières!
Then we’re joined by the Hardcore Hero himself, The Green Phantom!

It’s no secret that we love Fantasia here at 9to5.cc – we do a whole show about it – so imagine our excitement when Inés pitched the idea of having Emelia and Nancy from Hellgirl Productions on the show to talk (in part) about their short film “Bangs” that premiered at this year’s festival! Did we mention it features Andi McQueen who is also the best?

We talk about “Bangs”, making movies, our biggest fears and so much more. Go Plug Yourself 300!! w/ Alex Rose

The Montreal podcast that would win every single “I Quit” match because we’ve been around for 13 years and we’re not going anywhere baby!

Look, I’m fully aware that this isn’t actually episode 300 – that milestone quietly came and went probably sometime back in 2023. But we didn’t put a number on every episode of “Go Quarantine Yourself” during the pandemic, we don’t put numbers on the Shit Shows for the most part and whenever we just catch up with the hosts we don’t usually attach an official number to those episodes either. So whatever man – it counts! 300 more!

We recorded this one live (pal) as a part of the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival that has been running for the past week and a half and it was a blast. We had friend of the show Alex Rose come on to talk a little about the Fantasia Festival as it enters it’s final weekend and Walter J. Lyng and Lawrence Corber joined me for all the fun at Hurley’s.

GPYS 299: The World’s Smallest Comedy Festival (Again!)

Hey, did you know that Go Plug Yourself 300 is happening LIVE as part of the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival on July 22nd at 6 pm at Hurleys?

Well guess what? It is. One of more than 500 shows that will be happening over the course of ten days (July 21st to July 31st) hosted by the absolute maniacs behind Montreal’s beloved “World’s Smallest Comedy Night” each and every week.

So guess what? We have three of those wonderful maniacs on the show once again this week to talk about Anne of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, manspreading and probably a million other things that I’m not remembering right now. There’s a whole part that I don’t even know about where I get up to go get more drinks and Walter is left to his own devices with Troy and Vance. That’s audio that I am about to publish and I have no idea what it might be! Walter said I might have to remove it! But I didn’t!

That’s the kind of show we run here and that’s the kind of raw unfiltered nonsense you’ll be in for if you come down to Hurley’s on Monday.
