In case you haven’t heard the co-founder of Go Plug Yourself Mister Walter J. Lyng himself is headlining the Comedy Nest for the first time ever this Sunday June 28th at 8 pm, he’s also turning 40! To celebrate we bought a train ticket for the one and only Inés Anaya to come back to Montreal to help celebrate this historic confluence of events. We also paid for Troy Stark’s travel arrangements to come to Grumpy’s all the way from NDG. We did neither of these things. The four of us got together to catch up, talk about Walter’s 20 years of comedy and of course Taskmaster.

The Montreal podcast that asks Simon Peacock & Wassim El-Mounzer: “What is your ‘seed’ song for streaming music?” That question was asked back in episode 336 by Tom Murphy.

On this week’s episode we’re joined by the President of ACTRA Montreal Simon Peacock and the host of this year’s ACTRA Awards in Montreal Wassim El-Mounzer. Simon and Wassim talk about this year’s ACTRA Awards in Montreal, Canadian content, Degrassi and so much more. We have a fun conversation about what people look for today in entertainment and in our very humble opinions, maybe they’re looking for something different. Something unique. Something they’ve never seen before. Could that something be Canadian? Maybe we are all just a little sick of algorithms convincing us to watch the same old boring crap? Just maybe.

This year’s awards will be honoring members like Jacob Tierney, Duy Nguyen and Kirwan Cox and awarding nominees in categories like outstanding performances in television, films, video games and stunts. The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Montreal comedian Tom Murphy: What’s your favourite Disney movie? That question asked, of course, by Oren Shbiro back in episode 334.

On this week’s episode we welcome Tom Murphy to the show. Tom hosts what he describes as an old school open mic at Ye Olde Orchard on Monkland every Sunday night at 8 pm where anybody can show up, grab the mic and show off whatever they’ve got. Tom’s also moving away in a few months so this might be his first and last time on Go Plug Yourself.

GPYS 335: Troy Story 40

Ever since Troy Stark came back to Montreal a few years ago he’s been an important part of the Montreal comedy scene. Not only performing, but also producing some of the best local comedy events this city has to offer. So when the opportunity came up to have some of Montreal’s funniest folks gather together and celebrate Troy turning 40 on Go Plug Yourself we had to take it. Erik Intrevado, Daniel Carin and Sarah Warren join Chris Venditto, Walter J. Lyng and I to celebrate all things Troy Stark. He’s read 10 books this year already!

What ensues is obviously something akin to our annual Shit Shows but hey, isn’t that part of the fun?

We’ve got stories of concealed weapons, alcohol on planes, smuggling drugs across state lines and getting tossed into the back of a cop car because someone was playing with a toy gun while wearing a trench coat in the 1990s. If this is our last episode it’s because we’re all now in jail.

The Montreal podcast Go Plug Yourself asks Steve Leckman from Programmes Coyote: You have to diffuse a bomb – do you choose to ask the audience, go 50/50 or phone a friend? That question was asked by Lucie Gee and Dan Carin promoting Le Mini Grand Yes And on our last episode.

Steve Leckman is the Director of Programmes Coyote / Coyote Programs. Coyote Programs offer kids and teens the chance to get out in nature, have an adventure and take risks (while still supervised by skilled and knowledgeable grownup guides). They offer after school programs, daycamps, mentoring and getaway camping trips where kids experience screen free time in nature and foster creativity, resilience and to quote one of the kids “skills they might need in the zombie apocalypse.” If this sounds amazing (because it is), Coyote Programs is gearing up for their summer registration period. Steve joined Chris Venditto and I to talk about these programs, how important they are in 2026 to counter the rise of perpetual screen time and toxic masculinity and how kids are just so freaking ready to get outside and have an adventure.

The Montreal arts and entertainment podcast Go Plug Yourself asks Lucie Gee and Daniel Carin (from Le Mini Grand Yes And Improv Festival): “Who was your first celebrity crush?” That question was asked by Jason Rockman & Ryan Stick back in episode 331.

A few months ago we had Lucie Gee and Costa Tsimiklis on the show to talk about the debut edition of the burgeoning improv festival “Le Grand Yes And” – well guess what? They’re back at it with a new edition festival they’re calling “Le Mini Grand Yes And” – this springtime edition is focused more on producer-centric improv shows (the main edition will be focused more on improv troupes). We’ve brought back Lucie Gee and one of those producers (and friend of the show) Daniel Carin to talk about “Le Mini Grand Yes And” in general and Dan’s show “Improv By The Fireplace” which will be kicking off the festival.

You may remember that we had Shosho on the show a few months ago to talk about the runaway success story of merging comedy with crochet. Well, she’s at it again and this time she’s got our own Walter J. Lyng and longtime friend of the show Serag Meletian bringing the laughs as The Crochet & Comedy show takes over historic Café Cleopatra for The Yarn Ball on February 28th. There will even be prizes!
