I am so excited. The artwork looks amazing and the box is super cute! So here is once more, in case you had not read my previous review, a short description of the game; ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I was one of the privileged few to attend the Canadian Premiere at Fantasia last night! It was a packed house and the crowd was so primed.
Here is my spoiler free, quick review/impressions of the film.
I had mixed feelings about seeing this movie. I saw a trailer and was like… holy crap this looks stunning, but it might just be another ‘hot girl dressed sexy surrounded by unrealistic violence and mostly men’ movie. I decided (evidently) to give it a chance.
Greetings gentle readers! I’ve spent the last few weeks riding the hype trains for Hamilton (the musical about the ten-dollar founding father without a father) and the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante (UNIVERSAL STORY, EVERYONE GO READ THEM) and they took me far, far from Montreal. Luckily, I’ve managed to bring my thoughts a little bit closer to home with Z’Isle.
Z’Isle is a comic, game and web series about the Montreal residents who stayed on-island after the zombie apocalypse hits. I guess these are the people who didn’t make plans to meet their buddies in a Canadian Tire parking lot before heading for the hills, and they seem to be doing relatively okay. The scene starts seven years after the disaster begins, and the city has divided into a series of different strongholds that cooperate in order to survive. The recurring motto is “Trust. Trade. Hope.” ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I scrubbed together 5 things last time around, and it was all to easy to pull 5 more together for this installment.
These are five real, actual things that I just had sitting around near my computer in the office. They are all within arms reach of me right now, and are usually on display somewhere in here.
#6) Kreo Orc Guys
These guys are like slightly more articulated Lego figs, and are also licensed Dungeon and Dragon toys. There’s some physical game that you play with them, and I think it’s like “Crossbows and Catapults“, but I don’t know. I do know that they look fierce.
#7) Iron Man Hot Wheels
My wife got me this one as a gift. I really like the packaging, and so it sits in the box on my shelf. I think of it as a display piece.
#8) Playmobil Convict
This guy looks wrecked. I never really noticed until I had to take this photograph, but look at him. He really is a man of constant sorrow, and no Coen bro is here to save him. I thought this was some fun little add on to any future Playmobil set I might pick up for my son, but the mournful look on this face makes me think he’s already done too much hard time.
#9) Hot Wheels Millennium Falcon
This bad boy lives above my monitor, endlessly pursued by a pair of Tie-Fighters. It’s awesome, and keen eyes will notice the round communications dish.
#10) Stimpy Figurine
My mum gave this to me for Christmas once, many years ago. It has survived moves through all of the places I’ve lived since moving out, with only minimal wear. That poor goof.
Like many of us in Montreal, I do not have a dental plan provided by my work and I am currently unable to afford the cost of dental insurance. Being a university town , there are many new Montreal graduates facing this situation and thousands of individuals who have been facing it for decades.
The newest survey I could find from Health Canada said that in between 2007-2009, 34% of Canada had no dental insurance. Check it out here
So here is the cheapest dental plan around that I know of
The Cheapest Way to get Rid of a Toothache
This is salt. There are other white substances that may help with toothaches, but this is the cheapest by far.
So I don’t know if this will work for everyone and obviously not for every dental problem but I have found gargling with saltwater to be incredibly helpful when I get a toothache. And not just for your average toothache either.
Here is my personal experience.
Bad toothache (1 and 2):
These happened to me about 4 years and 2 years ago. The kind of throbbing pain that pendulums between a sharp stab to a dull ache.
I remember because I was living in one of those classic Montreal apartments with the really uneven floors in NDG and the second one happened when I lived right near 4 different dentists.
For both of these it just took a day of gargling with saltwater (gargle for about 15 to 30 seconds somewhere between 4 to 6 times a day). Afterwards the pain was gone and I could go on with my life.
Real bad toothache (the 3rd):
This toothache was crazy bad and it happened a few weeks ago. It sort of shifted around the right side of my mouth, sometimes leaving the whole thing in “stop everything” pain and rarely letting up. I had horrible times sleeping, barely getting any some nights. Couldn’t even tell which tooth was the bad one.
From looking online it seemed as if the tooth had become infected and was sending signals to the other nerves to go freaking nuts. There was also a worry that the infection had led to the blood stream because horrible shifting pain can be an indication of real bad infection.
I thought for sure that I would have to go to an emergency dental service. However, after gargling with saltwater the pain started to lessen. Granted, it took a full five days (the first 3 of which almost killed me) for all the pain to really disappear but eventually it completely went away.
This is Not a Replacement for Your Dentist
your teeth… if you were a life sized plastic person with removable parts.
I’m not a dentist and I do recommend going to see them when you have a problem.
But, if you are like me, then sometimes you have to save up to be able to go see them and that takes time. And saltwater gave me the time I needed.
Just through some salt in a glass of water until it tastes like the sea, swish it around for a bit and spit it out. Maybe it won’t help your particular situation but I doubt it can hurt.
If anyone knows any other tricks for the world’s cheapest dental plan then please feel free to mention it in the comments!
Friday night, I was lucky enough to be let in to see Tales of Halloween! I showed up a good hour ahead of time, but it was a sold out show and the media/VIP/industry line was already pretty long. I was on my own, but thankfully I ran into some friends and felt a bit reassured. This looked like it would be quite a bit freakier than the other horror films I`d seen at the festival so far. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Guys! Guys I went to see a horror film! I got to attend the World Premier of this wicked Israeli Film, from brothers Yoav and Doron Paz. They were adorable when they did their introduction, I`m sad I missed out on the Q&A.
But YES! I was a brave girl, and I went to see a scary movie all by myself. I was hoping Jon would join me so he could hold my hand through this scary first experience, but alas, he was way to tired. I stuck to it though. They let us in about 30 minutes late, and there were so many people in the VIP/Press line I for real thought I wouldn`t get to go in. I`m glad I stuck around though. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
So, as you probably all know, we had John Prescott on two weeks ago and he had some pretty choice words for the likes of C. David Blackburn and Ryan Rogan. Blackburn and Rogan are both fixtures in their own right in the Quebec independent wrestling scene so their people were quick to contact the 9to5 (dot cc) head offices and demand a counterpoint interview. Now, in the name of journalistic integrity and transparency Walter and I decided to trek out to the East end of Montreal to sit down with these two men to talk wrestling, Halifax, fashion choices and just what it is that some people don’t seem to like about their passion and their desire to win. The audio quality on this one is a little all over the place, because everyone was just so damn intense!
