At around minute 33, the boys talk about how during their opening show their iPod stops recording at minute 33 and gues what? Kyle Dooley’s mic stopped recording around the same time! It is fucking sorcery I swear to God! You can still hear Kyle for the rest of the podcast, he’s just really quiet. I am so fucking sorry world, this fucked up the big dance number we had planned at the ending as well.

Go Plug Yourself 40: Danny Payne and Talar Adam (JFL)

We cut out the middlemen (those run of the mill comedians) and head straight to the source for the JFL scoop (what a scoop!). Talar and Danny are a huge part of the behind the scenes publicity that goes on for Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival and they stop by to talk all about the festival and what it has in store for you, the Go Plug Yourself listener. Of course, by talk about the festival I mean talk about writing on bananas, mocking Toronto and smoking cold medication. Also there’s a lady who found a Jenga piece and really wanted to talk about it and gets interviewed by Danny Payne. Remember when Hollywood used to show up all the time on older episodes? It’s like that. This one is a little noisy since we recorded it on a Thursday evening and let’s just say that summer in Montreal brings out the drunks in all of us.

Go Plug Yourself 38: Tyler Lemco

So, if you can’t tell by that amazing picture that I chose for the episode image, that’s Tyler Lemco. He’s possibly best known for eating piles of bacon on Epic Meal Time. However, he has some other stuff going on that is also awesome. Like what you ask? Well, he raps. He’s also starring in a little indie flick with 9to5 (dot cc)’s own Walter Lyng called Lazy Boys (coming soon to something in your house). Tyler also owns rings that look like wrestling championship belts, which immediately qualifies him for our show. Tyler talks about some great stories of partying and excess and also about a strange house of a creepy old man who keeps another creepy old man in his basement and a menagerie of animals in and around his home. I’m not even kidding. The bar was a little loud on this one so deal with it kids. Pretty sure that’s the new motto of 9to5 (dot cc): Deal with it kids.

Go Plug Yourself 37: Al Lafrance (Montreal Fringe Festival)

Sure, I could’ve put all sorts of things up there in brackets after Al’s name. Or I could’ve even put nothing at all since once you see his face you know who we’re talking to. Or rather, once you see his beard you will know who we’re talking to. Al is basically living a life that is bursting at the seams with indie-art credibility and the best part? He still loves wrestling. Although he openly admits he’s more into indie wrestling since I’m pretty sure “indie” has to preface just about everything Al does. He’s basically running the show over at this year’s Fringe Festival, is a head honcho over at Bloody Underrated, has some sort of a fancy office at the Mainline Theater and is also manning the helm over at our arch enemy’s headquarters No More Radio. This interview with Al is also gonna be the kickoff for our series of Fringe episodes that you’ll start to see in the coming weeks! This is total excitement gang.

Lyng on Wednesday and you will probably see a whole lot of our very special guest Alain Mercieca as well. Why? Because he owns the damn theater son! Alain sits down with us to talk about… wait, what the hell did we talk about? I’m sure we talked about the festival at some point but I also have a distinct impression that we talked about The Goonies.

Go Plug Yourself 35: Pat Laprade

The authour of Mad Dogs, Midgets and Screwjobs Pat Laprade joins Walter and I for another packed full o’ rasslin’ episode of Go Plug Yourself. Pat’s book is a detailed history of Montreal’s unique pro-wrestling history and if this episode is any indication it is pretty goddamned interesting. Pat walks us through a few little tidbits of his book including stories about Louis Cyr, Killer Kowalski, El Generico and of course the Montreal Screwjob. You should listen to this one even if you’re not a pro-wrestling fan, Sarah sat in on the recording and was enraptured by Pat’s stories and you should be too. Also, if you hear the distinct sounds of another podcast being recorded in the background and want to know exactly what those guys were talking about you should check out our friend Mo over at Laughmatic who was also recording an episode at the back of Grumpy’s. This paves the way nicely for an invasion storyline into their podcast.

Go Plug Yourself 34: Slavic Slayer and Magnum PEI (Montreal Roller Derby)

Are you aware that Montreal has it’s very own bonafide roller derby league? Ok, you probably did. Scott and I are both announcers for MTLRD so there’s a good chance you at least know it exists. Well, this week the Captains of Les Filles du Roi and La Racaille (Magnum PEI and Slavic Slayer respectively). These ladies not only tear it up on the track (which of course we talk about) but also have great stories from their pasts that include field parties and pudding parties. Not kidding about either one of those. If you haven’t already, you should probably get your Beast of the East tickets right now and see both of these ladies (and their teams, and about a zillion more teams) compete for the full blown derby extravaganza that is Beast of the East on April 27-28th. It’s a whole weekend thing.

I’m going to give you about five seconds to figure out what I’m going to say next. Ok, time’s up. Here’s what happened: Magnum PEI has a teeny tiny little voice, which is weird because she is a teacher. In the process of doing audio correction I ended up messing up just about everyone else’s voices. I normalized as much of it as I could but it gets a little hairy towards the end, I guess you’ll just have to listen to the whole episode to get what I’m talking about.

Go Plug Yourself 33: Graham Cuthbertson

After recording this episode, Walter described Graham as the “perfect guest”. I think this was possibly just because Graham admitted to briefly entertaining the idea of pursuing a career in pro-wrestling and was also interested in roller derby. Either way, we had a great chat with Graham in the midst of the fallout of the previous day’s St-Patrick’s celebrations (green plastic trinkets littered Bishop street as far as the eye could see). We talk Montreal theater, Graham’s involvement with the very cool SideMart Theatrical Grocery company (I feel like they don’t really deliver groceries) and also our mutual friend Leighland. We also learn what lengths Graham would go to in order to not stop playing NES.

Go Plug Yourself 32: Kyle Allatt

Here’s a tip for all you creative types who want to be on the show: buttering us up will get you places. Kyle gushed to us in person about how great the show was and how it was the best and most fun he’s ever had on the internet (which I presume includes finding pictures of tub girls) and how we were great hosts. Only after that (and getting us all the somas, crank, blow and hookers we could handle which, for the record, is a lot) did he ask to be on the show again. Of course we said yes. Or, more specifically, I said yes and Walter said “watch me bite a piece of my own tongue off” which he then did. I guess spitting his own blood into Kyle’s face was a bit of an affirmation that the show was going to happen though, so let’s stick with that.

Anyhow, Kyle wanted to come on since he’s formed a new sketch comedy troop (or is it troupe?) called “Get Off the Stage” and he wanted to talk about that. So naturally we talked about other stuff instead.

I can’t seem to find any sort of official page for “Get Off the Stage” so here’s Kyle’s direct Facebook page instead. They have a show coming up on April 5th at the Montreal Improv. So go to that.

UPDATE: Those lazy Get Off the Stage guys actually created a Facebook page and it is here. GO TO IT. I’m not even bothered by the fact that their font and black and white scheme is highly derivative of 9to5 (dot cc). Fun fact, we invented typewriter fonts AND the absence of colour way back in 2011.
