NDG Comedy Fest – Go Plug Yourself 277 with Walter J. Lyng & Troy Stark

The Montreal podcast that asks Walter J. Lyng and Troy Stark (of The NDG Comedy Fest) not one, but two questions:

What is your favorite Montreal thing that isn’t around anymore?
What is your dream vehicle that is also a Transformer?

Those questions asked by Yannick and Alex (Les Voyeurs de Vues) back in episode 276.

My former (and sometimes still) co-host Walter J. Lyng can never be faulted for his work ethic. It seems like every time he closes a project off he’s got something bigger and better in the pipeline. Why not add “organize a comedy festival” to that list?

The inaugural NDG Comedy Fest is happening next weekend from May 19th to the 21st in beloved Montreal borough NDG. Walter is bringing out some of the biggest names in the Montreal comedy scene for your enjoyment. Derek Seguin, Leighland Beckman, Joey Elias, Bowser & Blue and a host of other amazing comedians round out the festivities. Walter tells me that the best way to enjoy the NDG Comedy Fest The best way to enjoy the festival is to get the all-access pass (to buy an all-access pass just click on any event and select the all-access pass option at ticketing).

Troy Stark also jumps on this episode (is he one of the NDG Comedy All Stars perhaps?) and we have a grand old time at the back of Grumpy’s.

Joey Elias Returns! GPYS 214

The Montreal podcast that asks Joey Elias: What is the one major law you would break if you could? (asked by Coko Galore and Ophira Calof in Episode 213).

Joey Elias is one of the pillars of the Montreal comedy scene. As Uncle Ben told Peter Parker: with great power comes great responsibility. To that end Joey has also become synonymous with a number of charitable organizations in and around the city, raising money and awareness for causes and members of the community that need help.

One of those causes is exactly what has brought Joey to the show today: Joey Elias and the Comedy All Stars at the Royalmount Drive-In. Joey has been putting together this event for 9 years running and even though this year will be different (it’s being held at a drive-in instead of the traditional venue of Club Soda), the cause remains the same and in many ways is even more important than ever before.

The event will be raising money for 03: On Our Own, with 25$ from each ticket sold going straight to help out O3.

So get your tickets now while you still can over at Eventbrite and head to the Royalmount Drive-In on August 26th to see Joey Elias, Harrison Weinreb, Amanda McQueen, Rodney Ramsay and GPYS’ own Lawrence Corber and support a great cause.

Go Plug Yourself 95: Heather B and Joey Elias

Both of these guests would have been more than enough to be the only guest on an episode of our humble little show, but they came together (along with a host of other Montreal talents) for the upcoming Movember awareness comedy show at The Comedyworks, so we brought them together to talk about it. Well, we talk about it for a little bit, we also complain a lot about some of the horrible people who are making this world a terrible place. Comedy!

Go Plug Yourself 22: Joey Elias

We are continuing our non-stop hot streak of guests with none other than one of the biggest names in Montreal comedy: Joey Elias! In addition to regularly headlining rooms all across the city, Joey is the host of the CJAD Comedy Show every night of the work week. Joey also runs clinics for upstart Montreal comics, so yeah, he’s a big part of the scene and we’re lucky to have him.

Joey talks a little about his comedy and comedy clinic but (possibly more importantly) Joey also takes the time to talk to us about recent events concerning the contraversial French sign that was placed up at Villa Maria metro (and his response on Facebook that exploded in popularity).
