Strong Christmas Beer (brown), 7.5%

Bought it because the Season is upon us, and I love brown ales, and the label was all artsy and pretty.

 

 

This is a nice rusty brown colour, slightly cloudy. It had a creamy beige foam when I poured it, but it`s pretty much gone now.

This smells so goddamn yummy. It smells like candied oranges and I cheated ad looked at the label, because I couldn’t put my finger on the other thing I was smelling, but it’s licorice. I hate licorice, but this just smells amazing.

Oh what the hell is this. New experience! OMG. This is an explosion of so many things I can’t wrap  my head around it. Whaaaat. I can taste the licorice, but it’s not bothering me. It mostly lingers in the aftertaste. The label says it has some cardamon, smoked peppers and a touch of caramel, but seriously I cannot for the life of me tell them apart.

All I know is that this tastes awesome. And yes, definitely Christmassy. Super tasty, and not tooth-rotting sweet, but sweet enough that I wouldn`t drink this with dessert.

Not super pricey for the size and alcohol content. A good deal!

The Ignorant Beer Review: Osmium

Bought it because I tried this brewery like 8 years ago or so, when they were still fairly small, and I really disliked it. Evidently they have grown and I think it`s time I get over it and give them another try.

The Ignorant Beer Review: La Résurrection de Broderus

Beer: La Résurrection de Broderus

Brewer: Dunham

Christmas Saison, 6,9%

Bought it because I have yet to try any of Dunham`s beers. To this date, none have really caught my eye. This is is new, and, well, you know. Christmassy. Plus the label looks pretty sweet. Got a kickass weird skull on it. And lizzaaarrrrdsss.

 

 

So this is a nice opaque amber colour. Pretty. Had a bit of foam that faded and left a thin blanket on top of my beer. It was a super pastel amber. Or off-white, whatever you prefer.

It smells amazing. It smells like fruit cake does, before you remember you hate fruit cake. Still though, smells great. The label says it has pomegranate and maple syrup in there, so that is definitely the sweetness I smell.

Oh wow. Yeah this actually tastes like fruit cake, but like, one that got doused with some type of alcohol, and doesn’t suck. And without the horrible dry cake texture. And beer. Also tastes of beer. You know… evidently. Wow I really like this. It’s also got a slight bitterness that follows through. More like tartness.

I like it! I would kill for some fancy cheese right now, I think it would set this off really nicely.

This beer is on the medium-strong side, at 6,9%. It`s also huge, so don`t drink it too fast, you hooligan.

It`s one of our more expensive bottles, but it`s fancy as fuck so I`m not complaining. It has brettanomyces in it. No, that`s not a typo.

I honestly don`t know. A grey…ish…beer? 5%

Bought it because the label looks like a hot mess, and Sandra told me to, none of us had tried it since we`ve received it last week.

 

I poured this like a 10 year old who`s just painted her nails would, so I got mad head, as pictured above. Super light colour, like watered down lemonade. Fairly cloudy, I can`t see through it at all. The mad head I`d poured dissipated fairly soon, leaving a white creamy thin foam.

It smells bitter. I dunno man. But fresh? I have to admit I let myself be convinced to buy it purely because a beer I used to love, Coup De Grisou, had a similar name… I thought maybe grey is a type of beer? Grey Beer. Meh. Something smells a bit sweet in it. Can`t tell what.

It`s a bit… sour? Very lightly. It is fresh though, wasn`t off about that. But the sourness lingers a bit in the aftertaste. It`s a bit smokey. But like, hardly.

I kind of like it.

I`m reluctant to try harder to describe this beer due to the fact that I got super annoyed trying to find information about who the hell brewed it. Or what`s in it. Or even what it is? Feh.

The Ignorant Beer Review: Bison Méchanique

Season with Bison Grass, 5,5%

Bought it because it honestly is just so strange sounding. And it seems to sell very well at the shop, so why not give it a chance?

 

Right so, it`s a very clear bear. A peachy kind of yellow, slightly clouded but hardly at all. the foam pours out all fuffy and creamy, and dissipates leaving a thin film of foam.

Oooh. It smells different. I expected, due to the colour, a bitter, hoppy smell. But no, it smells almost sweet. I was gonna say almost like pumpkin but no, it`s anise. It smells very nice. I have no idea what to expect.

Oh wow, this is very refreshing. It is a bit bitter, I suspect from the bison grass haha or maybe hops, I can`t always tell. But it`s balanced off fairly well. this is interesting. It`s a bit floral, that taste I can never identify properly but can always discern. Not usually my kind of thing.

This is not bad. Definitely not the type of beer I normally go for, but it`s pleasant enough. I think I would be done after one though, the grassy/hoppy taste is getting to me the more I drink it. If you like a bit of that though, I mean, it`s nice and light.

Fairly average strength at 5,5%. Smooth drinking with a slight twist. Recommend if you like Session IPAs but are getting bored of them.

The Ignorant Beer Review: La Chaga

Brewer: Brasserie Générale

Brown ale on lye, 6.5%

Bought it because it was strange enough to catch my attention. It was in the shop several weeks ago, I just never got around to it until there was one left on the shelf hahaha!

This is a mushroom beer. No no, you read that correctly. Mushroom beer. Made with the Chaga, a type of mushroom known for antioxidant properties.

It`s colour looks like a dark cloudy caramel, like the ones you get around Halloween, the little square ones. Pretty much opaque. It has a thin cream coloured foam that dissipates fairly quickly into nothing.

It smells very nice. A little sweet, but earthy at the same time. I am struggling to smell it actually, it`s fairly sublte.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I`ve certainly not tasted a beer like this before. Not saying much, I know… but yeah. Very different. I would say it`s very malty, which is not something I mind at all. The earthiness is definitely evident, but it`s not mushroomy. There is an extremely subtle sweetness, which balances off the slight bitter taste, and hardly any aftertaste.

I quite like this, it`s really different.

If you`re not afraid to try different things, give this a try. I like it!

The Ignorant Beer Review: Trèfle Noir

Stout, 5.8%

Bought it because I`m currently having a torrid love affair with this brewery, and as always, I love stouts.

 

 

This is the colour of like, you know when you make a pot of coffee, have a cup, and then leave the pot on the burner for like half a day and it gets super dark? It`s like that. So opaque. Much dark. It has a fine layer of cream coloured foam once poured, which lingers.

It smells like all the good comforting things I love. Sweet yet bitter coffee aroma, something toasted, just yum. Very fragrant.

Ooooh first sip is fairly hoppy, but balanced off nicely by the other flavours. I like the bitterness as it`s not overpowering. The coffee is very evident in every sip, as well as a slightly burnt toast in the background. A brief flash of dark chocolate shows up in the aftertaste.

Very little carbonation, as a good stout should have, I`d definitely call this a success. I am definitely putting this in my “comfort food & drinks” list. So nice. Much good.

Very affordable, as most this brewery`s beers are.

A bit light as far as stouts go, at 5.8%. Hey, that only means you get to have more!

The Ignorant Beer Review: Mellifera

Nativity Beer, 5%

Bought it because it has a baby luchador and mama sugar skull on the label, and it has sweet promises of honey.

 

This is the exact color of honey. Warm golden yellow, and the tiny bubbles dancing upwards from the carbonation make it look just magical. It has a dense foam, with a slight yellow tint. It vanished pretty quickly after pouring.

It smells absolutely divine. Almost like mead, but like traditional beer as well. I have no idea how this is going to happen all at once in  my mouth.

OMG. This is so bubbly. It`s so richly carbonated, it`s like champagne. It has a slight lemony tartness, and the honey is subtle enough that it balances it out, instead of being the predominant flavour. The after taste keeps a light sourness.

What the hell, I did not expect this. The label mentioned some extreme amount of honey being added, I seriously expected almost a mead hahahah! Don`t get me wrong though, I am a fan.

It`s very refreshing. Kind of like an alcoholic version of LaCroix sparkling water with boosted flavour. It`s smooth drinking too, at a comfortable 5% and a reasonable price.

I can see this being a great beer to go with a nice juicy burger.

The Ignorant Beer Review: Ale-O-Ween

Brewer: Le Trèfle Noir

Strong Pumpkin Ale, 7.8%

Bought it because I tend to love pumpkin beers, and I`m looking forward to trying more than the ONE we see everywhere this time of year. Also omg the label is so cute. And `TIS THE SEASON MUTHA FUCKAAAHHHHH!

 

 

This is the bright and bold colour of a rusty sunset. Fierce orange pierced with a fiery red tint, and it`s very clear. It`s got a creamy looking foam, dissipates lightly after a few minutes.

My goodness it smells amazing. It smells like everything pumpkin should smell like. It doesn`t seem to be overly spiced, which I think I`ll appreciate. I`m not into nutmeg. Or cloves.

Oh woooow that is smooth and creamy. This is so delicious. Hardly any bitterness, not really sweet, this is a perfect in-between. You can definitely taste the pumpkin, and slight spices. I`m glad they taste as subtle as they smelled. The aftertaste leaves you with a lingering ghost of pumpkins past.  Very soft.

This is so good. I`m furious, the shop was only able to get it`s hands on one box of 12 bottles. I wanted a whole case to myself! RAAAAGE!

This beer is pretty strong, so drink responsibly. Also, damned cheap for the punch it packs.
