Stout, 5.8%

Bought it because I`m currently having a torrid love affair with this brewery, and as always, I love stouts.

 

 

This is the colour of like, you know when you make a pot of coffee, have a cup, and then leave the pot on the burner for like half a day and it gets super dark? It`s like that. So opaque. Much dark. It has a fine layer of cream coloured foam once poured, which lingers.

It smells like all the good comforting things I love. Sweet yet bitter coffee aroma, something toasted, just yum. Very fragrant.

Ooooh first sip is fairly hoppy, but balanced off nicely by the other flavours. I like the bitterness as it`s not overpowering. The coffee is very evident in every sip, as well as a slightly burnt toast in the background. A brief flash of dark chocolate shows up in the aftertaste.

Very little carbonation, as a good stout should have, I`d definitely call this a success. I am definitely putting this in my “comfort food & drinks” list. So nice. Much good.

Very affordable, as most this brewery`s beers are.

A bit light as far as stouts go, at 5.8%. Hey, that only means you get to have more!

The Ignorant Beer Review: Stout Double Chocolat

Ale on Lees, 5% Stout

Bought it because it`s been taunting me. Rich, dark looking stout, promises of chocolate, and I like the brewer`s name.

 

 

This thing is 99.9% opaque espresso brown. I cannot see through it, this pleases me. So dark. It had a thin, milk chocolate brown coloured foam for a couple of minutes before it dissipated.

I`m like, two feet away from it, and I can smell it already. Yeess…. precious. Oh hell yes. It smells like cocoa goodness with underlying bitterness,  just like my soul.

Oh holy crap. This is not at all what I expected, but it`s crazy good. It`s… dry? Yeah. Like cocoa powder instead of Dairy Milk, you know? It`s tastes like chocolate, but it`s not sweet. It has that slight unsweetened bitterness you can get in those fancy dark chocolate truffles. It`s just right. And it doesn`t feel as syruppy as other stouts I`ve tried. Quite nice, mmmyess *twirls mustashe*

It`s only 5%, so easy to enjoy without losing one`s head. I mean, unless you`re really motivated. This is a limited batch though, so if you want one, don`t dilly dally.

I recommend this stout heartily!

The Ignorant Beer Review: Péché Mortel

Brewer: Brasserie Dieu du Ciel

Extra strong stout, brewed with coffee, 9.5%

Bought it because I was going to a chalet for the weekend and all my boyfriend likes to drink is pale ales. I was like F that. Also, brewed with coffee.

 

 

I was pouring this and noticed a slight redness when the light shone through, but in my glass it is hardcore opaque espresso brown, with a thick, creamy coffee coloured foam.

This totally smells like fresh ground coffee beans. This smells so rich and like it might be slightly bitter. Omg I want cake flavoured with how this beer smells.

Oh…. wow. Yeah I`m definitely a stout girl. This tastes like rich and smooth coffee, followed by a bitter sweetness. This is just indecent holy crap. It`s a little malty, but I like it. It`s not overpowering. I`m so glad I bought a 4 pack.

In short, very pronounced flavours. Persistent taste, thick and intense. I definitely recommend this for coffee and stout enthusiasts.

The Ignorant Beer Review: Sein d`esprit, bière fumée

Wheat beer, smoked, 5% (Rauchweizen)

Bought it because I remember trying a smoked beer many moons ago, Cheval Blanc, and I liked it quite a bit.

 

 

This is an opaque, peachy yellow beer. Nice creamy looking white foam too.

Oooooh smells like smoke. Like clothes the day after you spent the night in the campfire smoke. This smells so nostalgic to me hahaha!

Super refreshing when you first take a sip, and the smokey flavour creeps in after a couple of seconds.Slight bitterness follows that through, but is then chased off by a surprising yet gentle sweetness.

The label mentions banana and cloves aroma, with notes of vanilla. I can`t really pin point these flavours but I can say that it turns into a magical dance of omg I need more. The aftertaste retains no bitterness for me, I fucking love this. New favourite beer! YEAH!

If you like smokey beers but eventually get saturated by how strong the taste comes across, this is a great alternative.
