GPYS Flashback: Episode 150 Live Spectacular!

As occasionally happens when you’ve been podcasting for over a decade – sometimes a guest drops off the face of the planet (or the island of Montreal) and you’re left on a Wednesday night before a long weekend without a new episode of Go Plug Yourself.

Fortunately though we’ve got over 300 episodes in our back catalogue that we can dig up and re-share with you.

So we’re setting the clock back to 2018 for our 150th episode which was a live recording at the legendary Mainline Theater! Enjoy!

Here it is, the episode you’ve all been waiting for! Montreal’s longest running English language podcast is celebrating its 150th episode in style! Recorded live at Mainline Theatre on St-Laurent Boulevard, Walter and I welcomed a parade of some of the most talented Montrealers ever to grace a single episode of a podcast!

Joining us for the whole episode is none other than our resident musically talented friend (and provider of our theme song) Leighland Beckman!

The first guest on our show is none other than our French language podcast counterpart Yannick Belzil from 3 Bières!
Then we’re joined by the Hardcore Hero himself, The Green Phantom!
Finally, as he does for many of our milestone episodes, Television’s Mike Paterson joins us as well!

Leighland Beckman Returns! – GPYS 256

The Montreal arts and entertainment that asks comedian and musician Leighland Beckman: “If a group of crows is a murder, what is a group of you called?” Asked by Elspeth Wright back in episode 254.

Listeners of Go Plug Yourself already know who Leighland Beckman is, he has been sensually serenading you with our theme song for nearly a decade.

So we’re super happy to have him on the show to promote his upcoming Fringe show/album launch. Leighland has laid down a full length album with a complete backing band full of the dirtiest songs you will ever hear. To celebrate the release of “Aural Turpitude” Leighland is bringing “An Evening With Leighland Beckman” to the 2022 edition of the Saint-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival. Opening night is June 10th so get your tickets now. June 10th is also the release of the album which you can buy physical copies of at the show OR get on digital through leighlandbeckman.com.

Oh, Leighland also has the distinction of being the first recipient of three brand new questions that we decided on back in episode 255. Just another feather in his cap that just might tip the scales towards him receiving the Montreal Fringe Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

Also, we recorded this episode outside on Walter’s balcony so sometimes you might hear: garbage trucks, a hedge trimmer or something and crows.

Go Plug Yourself Episode 100!

More than 4 years ago sitting in Girouard park with Sarah, Raz and Walter I turned to Walter and was like “we should do a podcast, it will be easy.” He was like “ok.” A few weeks later I was like “ok, I bought mics and stuff when are we doing this?” and he was like “oh, you were being serious?” Anyhow, 4 years and 100 episodes later (not counting our infamous “non-canon” Just For Laughs, Fringe and New Year’s $#!% Shows) we’re still at it. We pulled out all the stops (there really weren’t that many stops) for our 100th episode, we took the show live for the first time ever at ComedyWorks, we got Leighland Beckman to play our song live, we got Mike Paterson to tell weird stories about Walter, we got live music from Nick Raz, live poetry and soundscape from Mike Carrozza and delicious pizza from Sapori di Napoli from Guido Grasso. Here’s to another 100!GPYS100

Go Plug Yourself 21: Leighland Beckman (of Aural Turpitude)

While Leighland wasn’t our first guest who was a musician (in fact, we’ve had several guests who are musicians: Bones Malones, Colt Cousins, The BCASA and well, I mean Mike P and Massimo were in a musical and Mike P does some music stuff on his own too) he was the first guest to perform live music on the podcast! He performs two songs in this episode and boy are they filthy. You might notice that Walter says “Dont’ Call it a Comeback” an inordinate amount of times in this episode. I think it’s because we hadn’t recorded in over a month so he felt like we took time off or something, maybe he didn’t realize that we banked two episodes so that you, the listener would not be impacted. Or maybe it was because Walter is a big jerk. I like that I get to write up the blurbs since he basically can’t talk back to me in these.
