The Montreal podcast that dares to as Montreal indie rock band We Are Monroe: Who do you wish was your dad?

We Are Monroe have big things planned in the next couple of months. Big things. They’re back in the studio with legendary producer Gus Van Go and a new album is in the works, but FIRST, they are playing the biggest party of the summer: Osheaga. Not only that, but they will be opening up for Kodaline and playing one of the official after parties on Friday night. Jason and Pat from the band join Walter and I to talk about road stories (Walter’s favorite), spending most of last year’s festival enjoying the perks of being an “on call” band and more.

Fantasia Podcast! With Alex Rose! (2019)

The Fantasia International Film Festival has been rolling right along for the last week and half or so and there have been a LOT of great movies being screened.

Cult MTL’s Alex Rose, as is tradition, decided to come over to my house to talk about some of the films he’s checked out so far. So, what do we talk about? We’ll you’ll have to listen to find out.

Just kidding.

Check out our (mostly Alex’s) takes on The Art of Self Defense, Alien Crystal Palace, Bliss, The Father’s Shadow and The Deeper You Dig. We’re all over the map in terms of genre and budget but hey, that is one of the best parts of Fantasia! Enjoy the show!

Osheaga Podcast – Sunday Part 2 (2019)

The Osheaga Arts & Music Festival is absolutely one of the biggest events of the summer in a city that is defined by having a million big events in the summer. And this year, it’s going to be even bigger. The last two editions of Osheaga took place on a temporary site that made the best of re-purposed sections of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but 2019 will mark the return of the festival to the original site. By original site I of course mean a newly renovated site that boasts a capacity somewhere over 65,000 people.

So to celebrate Osheaga being even bigger than ever we are making our 9to5.cc podcast specials even bigger than ever. How much bigger? Twice as bigger. That’s right, instead of one episode a day, Sarah and I will be breaking down our picks for each day across two episodes. When are we starting? Right now.

Our final preview episode (we’ll have a “Comedown” episode on Monday August 5th) is a little about romance and a little bit about being a badass lady. Also! Check out Go Plug Yourself on Thursday for our full length episode with We Are Monroe!

Girls Gotta Eat Set to Bring Dating Advice to Canada (JFL 2019)

My wife described “Girls Gotta Eat” like “My Favorite Murderer” but about dating.

That’s not bad company for Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine to be keeping (MFM does nearly 20 million downloads a month). The girls are bringing their dating expertise (ie: plenty of first hand experience) to Montreal and Toronto in the next few days for a live version of their podcast.

The live experience promises up-to-the-minute updates regarding their current dating situations (so fans of the show will have early insights) and, as the girls put it: “the best letters” are saved for the live shows. There is also audience participation, so if you desperately want Ashley and Rayna to be your personal relationship gurus you should make sure you’re at the show.

I was lucky enough to grab a quick phone interview with the girls today and now you are lucky enough to listen to it. It’s fun how that works.

Just for Laughs 2019 – Even More Nasty Show (Bobby Lee, Andrew Schulz, Bonnie McFarlane)

The Nasty Show at Just for Laughs is always one of the shows where comedy gets the rock star treatment. The show is at MTELUS, there’s a live band to hype of the crowd, and the performers are all ready to just tear it up. But this year, there’s something a little different. This is “Nasty” evolved. This is Nasty Show 2.0, proving crass comedy can still be in your face and offensive and intelligent and thought provoking at the same time.

The 2019 Nasty Show ensemble seamlessly weaves between making light of the mentally handicapped, sexual assault and more while somehow also being pro-choice and supporting gender and race equality.

Before hitting the stage I as able to have quick chats with Bonnie McFarlane, Andrew Schulz and Bobby Lee and we got to talk a little about being true to yourself in your comedy and finding your audience.

The Peers (Kate Hammer & Rahul Gandhi) – GPYS 185

The Montreal podcast that asks The Peers: What is your favorite biopic? (Because Tranna Wintour wanted to know).

Two of The Peers (Rahul & Kate) join Walter and Keith… wait… that’s not Walter! That’s Sarah! That’s right, my wife stepped in for this episode of Go Plug Yourself!

Rahul and Kate talk about the television show Lost, how Shakespeare is everywhere and also just maybe having sex with a fire alien. The Peers will be bringing their rapid fire take on all (that’s right, ALL) of The Bard’s works at Toronto Fringe starting next week, so if you’re in Toronto, be sure to check them out.  Opening night is July 3rd at 9:30 pm at Annex Theatre, 730 Bathurst Street, Toronto.   Tickets and more showtimes here.

    Stéfan Cédilot & Kathleen Aubert have become somewhat known in the Montreal theater scene for their use of dynamic soundtracks in their works. This year, they shake things up quite a bit by producing two shows that are not just devoid of soundtracks, but are also nearly completely silent.

    (Silence.) is two short plays, each telling its own story and exploring different facets of silence : what it says, what it shows, and what it hides.

  • Go Fringe Yourself 2019 – COLLISION

    Tiera Joly Pavelich suffered multiple concussions in the span of a few short years as a dancer. Somehow, she has taken that experience and used it as fuel to create something amazing. Working as a choreographer, Tiera has guided Gabriela Guerra Woo through her experiences in interpretive dance and movement.

    Sarah plans on watching this and crying quietly throughout.
