’77 Montreal Preview Podcast – A 40 Year Old Man Rediscovers Punk

’77 Montreal is right around the corner. You know that corner that is 9 days away. That corner. Scott and I will be checking out the 2nd Edition of Montreal’s celebration of all things “punk” on behalf of the website and we had a fun idea.

Scott has always had a kind of “on again, off again” relationship with punk rock music. So we thought it would be fun for him to go through the entirety of the ’77 Montreal lineup and pick out a few of the acts he was excited to see. That meant listening to a lot of music he had never heard before and guess what Mikey? He liked it!

Then we recorded a podcast about the bands he was most excited to see hit the stage on July 27th at Parc Jean-Drapeau!

See you in the pit! (We won’t be in the pit, we’ll be standing sensibly back from the pit, watching you like the old men we now are). Enjoy the show!

Screaming Demons – GPYS 153

Montreal based punk rock & roll band Screaming Demons join us this week in a conversation about punk rock and horror movies. I’d love to say that we talk about other stuff, but really, when you put 4 guys in a room with a few beers who all love horror movies, that’s what you get.

Paul Gott (Ripcordz) – GPYS 151

Paul Gott is probably the only guy in town with both “old school punk rocker” and “CBC” on his resume. Paul was actually one of Walter’s professors way back in Wally’s journalism school days. He formed Ripcordz nearly four decades ago in 1980 and has been touring and playing punk rock ever since. We talk about balancing life in punk with a career in the mainstream media, some of his tattoos and a great story about how he got an underage kid to interview Metallica.

The Kingpins – Go Plug Yourself 136

If you would have told me as a teenager that I would be sitting down at a pub to talk about the ska scene with members of The Kingpins, I would have probably said something like “you deserve it.” I’m not going to lie, I was always pretty full of myself. But my mind also would have been a little blown. Lorraine and Jesse from legendary Montreal ska band The Kingpins join Walter and I to talk about the ska scene of Montreal’s past and their upcoming set at ’77 Montreal. Enjoy the show!
