9ES 300: Steamboat Willie Entertainment System

Well everyone, we are closing out the year with our 300th episode. It’s time to radically re-brand and make this show the Steamboat Willie Entertainment System. From now on this show (as of January 1st 2024) this show will completely devoted to our fanfics about Steamboat Willie. Steamboat Willie will be getting up to all kinds of no-good in these fanfics. He’ll be having sex, doing drugs and just absolutely living his life balls to the wall. We can’t wait for this exciting new era of podcasting.

The internet is ablaze with reviews and opinions about Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon and I promise you that at least one of us will have watched this trashpile by the time next episode rolls around. It will be a bold move by Snyder to add Steamboat Willie into the franchise movie forward but I’m excited to see where it all goes. I promise one of us will have watched it by the time next episode rolls around – not sure if 301 will be a 2023 year-in-review or not yet.

Meanwhile over on Garbage Time Jon takes off so it’s left to Scott and I to hold down the garbage truck. We talk about the mess Jonathan Majors made and how Robert Downey Jr. just might be able to fix it, Scott watched Reacher, I’ve been playing a lot of Mortal Kombat 11 and it’s bonkers. We also talk about the Marvel Star Wars comics which are quite good and Batman and The Flash: The Button which is quite bad. I’m pretty sure we talk a little about Marvel Snap.Enjoy the show! We have a very special treat for you today.  We’re starting a new feature for the site, a definitive list of the greatest films of all time as selected by us, and we’re taking a whole episode of the podcast to start the list off with a bang.  The format is fairly simple.  Start with one film.  In the case of our list, we start with Mortdecai.  That’s now the list.  Then we consider another film, say, John Wick.  Is John Wick a better film than Mordecai?  It is.  It is therefore placed above Mortdecai on the list.  Every time we bring up a film in the podcast, or whenever we feel like it, we will continue to organically grow the list until it is complete or the universe ends in heat death.  Or possibly we get bored and abandon the project.  Who can predict the future in the vicissitudes of possibility?

Not I.

Regardless, we need to offer kind thanks to Cris Sims and Matt Wilson of War Rocket Ajax who began a similar (and original) list with regards to comics, and from whom we stole this idea.  Thanks boys!

Finally, the list will be added to the bar at the top so you can easily reference which are, and are not, the greatest films of all time.  Joy!

9to5 Entertainment System 84: Jamming With the Console Cowboys

Man, Scott must be getting ready to upload some massive art files or something, because this week’s episode image is comically tiny. I think it’s less than 10k. I almost forget that anything could be less than 10k. My concept of data is so 2015. Scott himself was at home taking care of his baby and wife and Sophie was sadly working and despite the premise of this site, it is rather difficult to do a podcast when you’re actually at work answering the phone. Such is life. Enjoy the show everyone!

9to5 Entertainmet System 77: In My Pants!

The alternate title to this episode is “Turn Off the Internet and Talk to Your Mom”. Well this was a productive night. Despite the fact that Sophie couldn’t make it do to illness the boys still got together to record and go over Scott’s run of 9to5 illustrated that will start up in a few weeks (after mine). Not only that but I’m editing and writing this post on the same day we’re recording (this is Tuesday for me, even though it’s clearly Thursday for you). I wish it was because I was getting ahead of stuff so I would have more free time but it honestly looks like I will have to pull multiple overtime hours this week and just want to get it done so it’s not late. I’m doing this for you. For the love of God and all that is holy, if you enjoy this podcast tell your friends about it. Please. I would rather be playing video games right now than editing this post.
