Montreal Roller Derby – Artoo & Why So Sirius – GPYS 154

Two of the members of Montreal Roller Derby and part of the coaching staff of the 2017 Beast of the East champions, La Racaille, join Walter and I in preparation for next week’s Beast of the East roller derby tournament. Both Artoo and Sirius are members of Montreal’s WFTDA A team the New Skids on the Block in addition to their coaching duties of one of MTLRD’s home teams. We talk about how they came to play in Montreal and a whole lot of roller derby. For more information about the Beast of the East tournament, go here. And for tickets, go here. La Racaille will be looking to win their third consecutive Beast of the East championship (and fourth overall) next weekend, April 27-29th at Arena Mont Royal, 4365 Cartier St, Montreal QC, Canada.

Little side note, I’m still getting the hang of the new audio interface and laptop setup, so Artoo and Sirius end up a lot louder than me. Which is fine, they’re the reason you’re listening anyways.

9to5 Entertainment System 84: Jamming With the Console Cowboys

Man, Scott must be getting ready to upload some massive art files or something, because this week’s episode image is comically tiny. I think it’s less than 10k. I almost forget that anything could be less than 10k. My concept of data is so 2015. Scott himself was at home taking care of his baby and wife and Sophie was sadly working and despite the premise of this site, it is rather difficult to do a podcast when you’re actually at work answering the phone. Such is life. Enjoy the show everyone!

Go Plug Yourself 34: Slavic Slayer and Magnum PEI (Montreal Roller Derby)

Are you aware that Montreal has it’s very own bonafide roller derby league? Ok, you probably did. Scott and I are both announcers for MTLRD so there’s a good chance you at least know it exists. Well, this week the Captains of Les Filles du Roi and La Racaille (Magnum PEI and Slavic Slayer respectively). These ladies not only tear it up on the track (which of course we talk about) but also have great stories from their pasts that include field parties and pudding parties. Not kidding about either one of those. If you haven’t already, you should probably get your Beast of the East tickets right now and see both of these ladies (and their teams, and about a zillion more teams) compete for the full blown derby extravaganza that is Beast of the East on April 27-28th. It’s a whole weekend thing.

I’m going to give you about five seconds to figure out what I’m going to say next. Ok, time’s up. Here’s what happened: Magnum PEI has a teeny tiny little voice, which is weird because she is a teacher. In the process of doing audio correction I ended up messing up just about everyone else’s voices. I normalized as much of it as I could but it gets a little hairy towards the end, I guess you’ll just have to listen to the whole episode to get what I’m talking about.
