The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast Go Plug Yourself asks comedian and producer Nazeer Khan: What new grocery store item are you most excited about? That question asked in our previous episode by Dr. Tyler Lemco.

It took a little bit of coordination (which is also why we’re a day late in posting this episode) but we finally managed to get Nazeer Khan on the show. If you don’t know, Nazeer Khan is one of Montreal’s finest comedy producers and is producing shows all over the Greater Montreal area. From the West Island, to Downtown, to the Plateau (allegedly) and all the way up to Deux Montagnes.

Tyler Lemco Returns! Dr Lemco’s Creative Club – GPYS 327

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast Go Plug Yourself welcomes back Tyler Lemco and asks the question: “Who in your life do you think is most likely a time traveler?” That question asked as always be our good friend Sarah Warren back in episode 326.

If you remember back in July we had Tyler Lemco on the show talking about Dr Lemco’s Creative Club where Tyler was hosting creative art parties all over the city, one of the things he mentioned was that it was his dream to have his own space to host these events. A Creative Clubhouse so to speak. Well guess what? He did it! GPYS Holiday Sh*t Show!

You know what the Go Plug Yourself gang got you for the holidays? A podcast a day early! Our generosity knows no bounds!

It’s time for our most chaotic episode of the year! It’s the Go Plug Yourself shit show featuring too many people to mention but I’m going to try anyways – starting with my amazing co-hosts Walter J. Lyng, Lawrence Corber, Troy Stark, my wife Sarah and Chris Venditto, Go Plug Yourself regulars like Vance Michel, The Green Phantom, Mike Carrozza some cameos by Zak Kik, Shosho Abatouk, Harvey the Dog, some guy named Colin or Connor and I’m pretty sure Hasher was there for a second too. It’s a mess you guys. Enjoy the show!

The audio quality is always a little all over the place with these bad boys and this year is no exception, I tried to level it off a little (our tendency to yell loudly when anyone showed up was particularly brutal on the ear drums) but it is what it is they say. So load this episode up and put it on a speaker so the whole house feels like a party where you’re not allowed to talk. In fairness, nobody is really “allowed” to talk when we’re all together like this. It’s just about being the loudest person in any given moment.

GPYS 326: Sarah Warren Returns!

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks comedian Sarah Warren: “Which love song do you wish was written about you?” That question was asked a few episodes ago by the wonderful Lou Laurence who was promoting her debut album “Montréal Romantic.”

Listen, we know that we had Sarah Warren on the show already this year to promote her show “My Dead Mom’s Cookbook” but you might remember that on that very show she mentioned she was (at the time) taking a break from standup comedy. Well guess what? She’s back! Next Thursday, December 18th at the historic Café Cleopatra Sarah Warren will be taking to the stage to headline an all-star lineup of local talent. “Sarah Warren & Friends” will be the perfect way to kick off your holiday revelry in earnest. I promise.

Go Plug Yourself 325: “Sports!”

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast takes a break from our usual programming and invites Scott MacIver (from our other show 9ES) to talk about sports! We’re a Montreal sports show now! I’ll be totally up front though, about 95% of the sports talk is hockey centric. Scott and Chris talk a little about football and baseball towards the end there but we love in Montreal and this is a hockey town so this is kind of a hockey podcast.

Deal with it!

The three of us break down the first 25% of the season for our beloved Montreal Canadiens who are quickly becoming one of the most exciting iterations of this team that we’ve had in recent memory. We also spend a good chunk of time celebrating the woes of the Toronto Maple Leafs. We all knew the wheels were going to come off but so far it’s been even more dramatic than even my wildest predictions.

We talk about Team Canada, which Habs might make the cut for not only Team Canada but who else will be heading to Milan for their respective countries and Scott pretty much fixes the All-Star game.

We close things off talking about the Milwaukee Brewers and Chris proclaims the MLB playoffs and World Series to be the most entertaining post-season in sports.

Lou Laurence – GPYS 324

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks singer-songwriter Lou Laurence: “What makes baseball so romantic?” That question asked by Pascal Girard back in our last episode.

Lou Laurence is an incredibly talented (and funny) performer who you may even recognize from her last appearance on this podcast promoting her Fringe Show “Love, Sharks & Frenching“. Well she’s just released her first album “Montréal Romantic” and you can listen to it pretty much everywhere you stream music. You can even buy the album digitally on Bandcamp if you’re a really good person.

Lou Laurence joined Troy Stark and I at the back of Grumpy’s to talk about producing her first album, how thin the wall is between her and her neighbour and generally all the ups and downs of living and loving in the wonderful city of Montreal. Sudden snow storms, transit strikes and all.

Troy Stark also steps up as full co-host for this one because Walter “flaked” on the episode in a move that I’m sure was not prompted by the metro strike. Thank you Troy!

Pow Pow is bringing the English translation of Pascal Girard’s latest book “Pastimes” next week.

CULT PLAY w/ Scout Rexe & Annie Valentina – GPYS 322

The Montreal podcast that asks playwright Scout Rexe and director Annie Valentina from CULT PLAY: What is the biggest hurdle in your creative process? That question asked back in episode 321 by Lucie Gee and Costs Tsimiklis from Le Grand Yes And festival.

CULT PLAY from Imago Theatre is having its world premiere at the Segal Center next week (tickets and showtimes here) and honestly it sounds like an incredible production. Playwright Scout Rexe (or Sax as their friends call them) got sucked into cult documentaries during the pandemic and began to wonder what it would take for them to be sucked into a cult. That thought process lead to the creation of CULT PLAY which Annie Valentina brings to life on stage.

GPYS Rewind: Mick Foley (2012)

Interviewing Mick Foley back in 2012 was crazy. We had been doing this show for less than a year at the time and the circumstances of sitting down with the Hardcore Legend at 3:00 in the morning still blow my mind.

But we did it.

The fact that in the ensuing 13 years Walter would go on to hang out with Mick Foley multiple times, including opening for him a few years back at the Montreal Comiccon is extra crazy.

We’ve gone from a few hundred (if we were lucky) downloads a month to several thousand. We’ve grown as a show and having amazing guests like Mick Foley definitely helped put us on the map.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over being allowed to just set up a computer at a Just for Laughs party and record with whoever wanted to chat. The other crazy thing is that at the time of recording Walter and I were both still in our 20s and Mick was in his 40s. Time flies.

Anyways, the more things change, the more things stay the same. Mick Foley is back in Montreal returning to the historic Café Cleopatra TOMORROW NIGHT October 2nd. As of recording this episode there are still some tickets available so get them now! Multiple tiers of tickets available now at Eventbrite.

Le Grand Yes And – GPYS 321

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks two of the founders of the new improv festival in Montreal “Le Grand Yes And!” Lucie Gee and Costa Tsimiklis: “What would your last meal on earth be?” That question was asked by Julie Santini back in episode 320.

Le Grand Yes And! is the latest festival in a city famed for its festivals. Festival organizers Lucie Gee & Costa Tsimiklis (along with Victor Neves Borges) have decided that not only does Montreal deserve an improv festival, it deserves to have a bilingual improv festival. Le Grand Yes And will feature 15 shows and 10 workshops for lovers of improv comedy at all levels. There’s even a few shows that feature our old pal Mariana Vial!

Lucie and Costa joined Sarah and I at the back of Grumpy’s to talk about Le Grand Yes And, what prompted them to get on stage and of course because this is a show hosted by me: Hollow Knight: Silksong. It’s a good game, ok?
