WTF World 10: Sidney Crosby Still Not Ready to Play, Dead Island Release Fuck Up, Texas is on Fire and No Red State For Canada

This is another (slightly) truncated edition of WTF World. As I mentioned earlier, the real world sort of got in my way of my usual ritual of either writing the article the evening before or waking up early and writing this thing before I go to work. The truly diligent amongst you might have noticed I was tweeting at around 1:00 am last night so neither of those things happened.

Before I delve into the meat of what I’m going to talk about, I thought it was cool that the term “Red State” is trending heavily this week, presumably since as of September 1st all you lucky Americans can now watch the flick on a multitude of video on demand services. Canada? No such luck. I actually wanted to get my friends together and do a little Red State get-together. No dice Canada, we need to wait until October or something.

Red State Full-o-Spoilers Review: I Will Ruin Red State for You

This one is a little shorter than the other one. This one has the spoilers.

Red State starts off with Travis (Michael Angarano) getting driven to school by his mom, they drive past a funeral for a local boy who was brutally murdered and who happened to be homosexual. His funeral being picketed by the Cooper family who are all members of the Five Points Church (as I mentioned in the other review, this family is heavily influenced by the Phelps family and the Westboro Baptist Church), poor Travis is late for school.

At a breakneck pace, we’re told that the Five Points Church is ultra conservative and ultra evil, his buddies Jared and Billy Ray are introduced and Jared convinces all of them to drive to Coopersdell (home of the Five Points Church) to gang bang a 38 year old lady they met online. Religion and dirty sex are pretty comfortable territory for Smith, this all rolls along smoothly and we have our set up. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Red State Spoiler Free Review: Red State Red Province (Canadian Tour) Kicks Off In Montreal – Hit Somebody Now Two Parts

I saw Kevin Smith do a Q&A at the 2010 Just for Laughs Festival, and he was super psyched for this little indie horror film he was making called Red State. Being a Smith fan and a horror film, I was pretty intrigued. Red State showed up on my radar early, and I followed it closely for the past year or so. Pretty easy to do with all the Red State related info that Smith has been churning out the past 12 months.

Oh yeah, as I tweeted last night (I need to update that profile), Smith announced in Montreal that Hit Somebody will actually be a two part film (notice how my tweet predates Cinema Blend’s article by 13 hours?). Not sure what the market is for two-part hockey films (other than Canada) but I’m excited and I’m pretty sure Smith doesn’t give a shit about the market anymore either.

After publicly feuding with the Phelps family (with the Phelps family chanting God Hates America and a pack of high school kids singing Lady Gaga lyrics back at them, Smith’s reaction? “It was fucked.”), a circus at Sundance, then taking the show on the road like an old timey movie with only one print, Smith’s flick finally rolled into Canada. Sort of, it actually screened at Fantasia a few weeks ago, but, other than a few minute video intro, Smith himself was absent from the premiere. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
