I can’t say that I 100% knew what I was getting into when I decided to watch Gintama [2017] at Sunday’s sold-out showing at the Fantasia International Film Festival. I will admit that I did not actually know it was an anime adaptation—though I did have my suspicions when a pair of cosplayers showed up. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Welcome to Drink to Think,
the show about alcohol, cocktails and how a drink might be able to make us better people. The basic format of the podcast will revolve around one cocktail per episode. We will go into the history of the cocktail or liquors involved, followed by a story of how some form of meaning can be given to the cocktail and finish with a tasting. You are encouraged to make the cocktail with us and if possible have a tasting with some friends just as we do in the show.
Many of the story portions of this show will be excerpts from the manga Bartender written by Araki Joh and illustrated by Kenji Nagatomo. The overarching theme of the podcast is on alcohol and its trappings but the underlying theme is about human hardship and creativity. Hardship because when you need a drink it is often because you have had a rough day and creativity because it is very impressive that humans can apply a great deal of meaning to anything in their lives. For example, this show will explain how a simple story can make a world of difference around something as simple as a glass of liquor.
Hope you enjoy and here’s to you my friends.
Today’s Cocktail: Mizuwari
Starting off real simple. A Mizuwari is a Japanese cocktail of a spirit mixed with water (we shall be drinking scotch whiskey). The idea behind the cocktail is that 1) the water can help bring out more subtle flavors and 2) it is a way for those who do not have a taste for hard liquor to come to enjoy it.

Hey there folks, my name is Chris and this will be my first vagrant contribution to 9to5. I was planning on making my debut talking about Anime but it just so happens that I got back from a rocking tour of one of the biggest games conventions in the world: GenCon. So I’m going to break that one down.
First off, I’ve been going to this 4 day con on and off since 2005 and it never fails to impress. Getting there is a bit of a bitch though as it involves a 16 hour drive from Montreal to Indianapolis. Perks along the way; Kraken Spiced Rum, decent pork rinds (#keto) and catching up on TV Shows on the iPad.
Some people might wonder: “why would you subject yourself to 32 hours of driving there and back just to check out a bunch of games? Can’t you just do that in your basement at home like a normal person?”
Well yeah, but GenCon hosts 40 to 50 thousand people every year and it’s a great place to meet like-minded folks plus revel in the 12000 possible events including; 360 different companies presenting their wares, artist and writer panels and the world’s largest game of Settlers of Catan plus a 50 hour Guinness world record for longest game played. All that aside, the main reason I headed out was to help out some friends run their Dresden Files LARP.
The title of this podcast is seriously Sophie’s description of a metal band. This is going to be the most half assed post ever for a podcast since it’s midnight, I’m on like 4 or 5 hours of sleep and I’m about to get 3 hours of sleep and then get on a plane to go on vacation. I’m writing this Saturday night you see, even though you will only be reading it on a Thursday. Anyhow, this is a fun (if a little disjointed) one. Classic old timey 9ES ramblings for your listening pleasure.

A few weeks ago I semi-seriously asked Keith if he could get me press tickets to Otakuthon. I had never been to an event like this and wanted to see what it was about, but I wasn’t sure I really qualified as a proper Otaku. Still, I feel my credentials are significant. I played the Robotech RPG in university; followed popular anime series like Bleach and Mushishi; have re-watched classic movies like Akira and Ghost in the Shell; and I know way more about hentai than I would publicly admit (Edit this before posting) but it’s not like I dress in cosplay or have much depth of knowledge.
I don’t know who you’re supposed to be, but damn.
