In November 2007 Amanda Knox was convicted of murdering and sexually assaulting her roommate, Meredith Kercher. She (Amanda) was dating some guy named Raffaele Sollecito who, along with Rudy Guede was also charged. The big problem with this case (at least, the big problem with the prosecutor’s case) is that there was DNA goddamned everywhere. Rudy Guede’s DNA was all over the place (including of course inside of Meredith Kercher), so we’re pretty sure he’s still guilty. Sollecito’s DNA was found on fragments of Kercher’s torn bra. Knox’s DNA was found on the knife that was used to kill Kercher.

The day after the murder Amanda Knox wrote a very long note professing her innocence:

I’m trying, I really am, because I’m scared for myself. I know I didn’t kill Meredith. That’s all I know for sure.
