Getting in on the Fantasia action later than I would have liked this year, and for reason, I kicked it off with what could possibly be my oddest movie choice to date. All I knew of it was the short descriptive blurb in the program, and paired with the colourful photo it presented, I thought it would be cheesy, light-hearted fun.

9to5 Goes to Fantasia 11: The World’s End and Halley
So we didn’t quite get to the same number of films as we did last year, but hey, we had more written reviews this year (not to mention our interview with Lloyd Kaufman and upcoming interview with Kane Hodder) so deal with it. It was closing night so I checked out the big closing film of Fantasia Edgar Wright’s The World’s End and Jono went the indie route and watched Mexican slow paced zombie drama Halley, which just so happened to have a short film called My Pain is Worse Than Your Pain before it that Jon also seemed to enjoy. Listen now for all our thoughts.

9to5 Goes to Fantasia 9: Samurai Cop and Return to Nuke Em High Vol 1
Walter J. Lyng, who you might know from that OTHER podcast joins us to talk about two standout films coming from deep in the “B” category of cinema. 1989’s terribad action blockbuster Samurai Cop and the latest offering from Troma Films (and the fourth film in the Nuke Em High series) Return to Nuke Em High.

9to5 Goes to Fantasia 8: After School Midnighters and Vessel
I got together with Sophie and watched After School Midnighters while Jon decided he wanted to give a second opinion to Scott’s take on the film Vessel. What did we think about them? Listen now!

So Jon and I both watched Rewind This and then I stuck around da Seve for The Dirties (which we give yet another glowing shout out to) and Jon huffed over to The Imperial to watch Bobcat Goldthwait’s found footage sasquatch horror film Willow Creek. We ‘re about to get Fantasia’d up in this bee-yotch.

We’re hitting our stride here at 9to5 (dot cc) as keep going to see movies at what has so far been an incredible edition of the Fantasia Festival. Today, Jon and I talk about the social networking horror thriller Antisocial and Danny Trejo kicking some serious zombie ass in Zombie Hunter.

What’s on the show tonight? Is it a film about an obsessives terrifying (and also Mormon) man who falls for a recently separated woman and a movie about a brilliant but trouble scientist who happens to create a sophisticated AI housed in a life-like shell? YES IT IS. 9to5 Goes to Fantasia keeps going with these ongoing episodes of our special little podcast about these two films.

Jon and Keith again tackle two wildly different films with Go Down Death and OXV: The Manual. Go Down Death is a black and white tribute film to the strange absurd film making of yesteryear and OXV is a mathematical, philosophical romance story about measurable luck. These sure do sound like Fantasia Festival films don’t they? They sure do!
