Montreal Roller Derby has just completed their 5th season. Five years of great roller derby action done, with no signs of slowing down.
The city championships took place this past weekend on August the 6th, where the Contrabanditas beat the reigning champs Les Filles Du Roi by a score of 99-80. The ‘Ditas dethroned the back-to-back champs and won their first ever city championships in front of a sell out crowd at Arena St-Louis.
The ‘Ditas were scrappy, going undefeated in the season and looking for their first taste of the gold. FDR had done well all year long, starting the season with a very green group of skaters, but showing great progress and really making a game of it. Early predictions were for a win by the Contrabanditas by a large margin, but Les Filles made a great run, and fought all game long.
Congrats to the Contrabanditas for their great year, and special congrats to skater Charlotte Bruise-A-Lot, the only member of the team to have skated with the team for all five years of their existence.
The 2012 season will begin next spring.
