Yes, I’m mostly going to be writing about whether or not I’m writing (ha! redundant!) but as I mentioned, I’ll still be keeping my regular monthly reviews of those delightful boxes of joy: Loot Crates.

This month’s them was “ANTI-HERO” so I was ready to take a trip down the strange days of 90s comic books where everyone was a badass and kids thought Lobo was cool. Remember Lobo? He was basically Wolverine in DC but was in space and rode a space motorcycle. Lobo! Nope, what that actually means is that we’ll have items from Suicide Squad (if by Suicide Squad you mean Harley Quinn), Kill Bill, Archer, World of Warcraft and Hellboy.LootAnti1

Note: One of the reasons I enjoy doing these things so much is that I get to play around with my DSLR camera, in this month’s edition I was focusing on flash photography, so everything kind of came out a lot darker than I expected. I prefer natural light but this was more an experiment for myself. So there’s that.LootAnti2

Kill Bill Socks:

I really like socks as a Loot Crate item. I mean, I like socks in general. I work in a job that has a “business” casual attire that basically means no jeans and a shirt with a collar. One of the only real ways I get to “be me” so to speak is with nifty socks. Blood stained recreations of The Bride’s boots might be a little much for the office, but as a Tarantino buff I’m still pretty much on board. They are a little on the snug side and my wife liked them so guess what? They’re hers now. Still cool

Harley Quinn Q-Fig

I’ve got a love-hate relationship with Harley. Her first incarnation in The Animated Series quickly became one of my favorite parts of an already amazing show. I liked that she was both funny and psychotic, but much less so than the Joker. It was a cool dynamic. The one thing I never really thought of her as, was sexy. I mean, acrobatic sure, but she wasn’t an oversexed character the way a lot of comic book characters end up being.

I mean, that was then. Since then we’ve had any number of sexed up versions of Harley from the Suicide Squad in New 52, to her sexy costumes in the Arkham Game to the short-short wearing version in the Suicide Squad film. I’m all about characters owning their sexuality and all that I just never really thought that was what Harley was about.

Anyhow, this fig is of classic Harley in her harlequin jester style costume that so many interations seem to have forgotten about. Just Google “Harlequin jester” and you’ll see costumes that look a lot like Harley’s. That’s her name. Her name is her costume! Ha! Not anymore! Now her name makes no sense!

I love this figurine. It’s just an added bonus that she’s accompanied here by what appears to be either Bud or Lou from The Animated Series.

Hellboy Fist of Doom Piggybank

First off, hats off to Loot Crate for thinking outside the box in terms of the type of loot with this item. I mean, it would have been cool if it was just a sculpt of Hellboy’s big ole’ four fingered Fist of Doom. But no! They also brought a cool function! It’s also a piggy bank!

Guys I was so hyped. I’m Canadian and I do this thing where I never spend 2$ coins (or “Toonies” because our money is adorable). In the span of a year or so I usually end up with 250-300$ in 2$ coins and it’s just basically bonus money. I would be able to stash my toonies in a Hellboy fist and when I had 25 of them in there transfer them over into a roll. Instead of the current situation where I just have a pile of loose coins next to my lamp. It would be glorious.

What’s this? TOONIES DON’T FIT. My disappointment was palpable. As far as I can tell, the biggest coins that could come out of the hole in the bottom would be quarters, which means that even the (still underused) American 1$ coins might not come out easily.

This is top marks for effort Loot Crate, but I have to imagine that there are a lot of countries that have coins bigger than a quarter, so just missed sticking the landing with a really cool AND useful item.

World of Warcraft Pin:
It’s a pin! From the World of Warcraft! Featuring a member of the… I want to say… Horde? Nailed it. Pin unlocks a month of the game, which is cool I guess if it’s 2016 and you’re wondering what this World of Warcraft thing is all about.

Archer for President Shirt

“You want a president? Because that’s how you get a president.”

There’s so much delight in this t-shirt. I also got weirdly meta into why I like it so much since in a lot of ways Sterling Archer is the spiritual brother of Xander Crews in Frisky Dingo and Xander actually ran for president. This shirt is nailing it on so many levels you guys.

Plus, everything is funnier about elections this year since the actual election is about as messed up as a plot from Archer.

Overall?

This was one of my favorite crates of the year. Aside from the fact that I am a fan of most of the IPs on display in this box I also like the nature of the Loot. A non-t-shirt wearable, a t-shirt, a cool figurine and something geeky and useful (if it could work with 2$ coins!). Good mix.

See you next month where the theme is SPEED. So I guess, stuff from the movie “Speed”… probably not.
