Look At All My Sh*t – April Loot Crate “QUEST”
Hey everyone, I’m very sorry this is late getting posted but I got married this past weekend and I’m still recuperating. Anyhow, we’re here, it’s still Tuesday. It might not be April anymore but here’s my monthly look at the Loot Crate.
This month’s theme was “QUEST” which seems like a slightly broader version of last year’s “FANTASY” Crate, and honestly, with a very small exception it just as easily could’ve been FANTASY 2. I don’t really have a problem with that, I play Dungeons & Dragons and I love me some Harry Potter, without further ado, let’s take a look at what we’ve been questing for.
That was dorky.
Loot Crate Exclusive D20 Ice Mold
This is super cool. As I mentioned up above, I am a tabletop gamer. You only need to look at my multi-part trek through the Tomb of Horrors as proof of that. My first ever tabletop game was Robotech which prominently featured the D20 to attack, even back in the early 90s. Of course, we’ve had the D20 system and most tabletop RPGS these days have this bad boy as their main die. Long story short, it’s probably the most iconic of the main dice. Also I like to drink. So I need ice cubes in my cocktail, what better way to celebrate my geeky past time than by getting drunk with a melting D20 in my cocktail?

Vikings TV Show 1/2 Size Drinking Horn
When we were opening up this Crate, Sarah literally yelled “ooohhh snapppp!!” when she saw me take this little horn out of the little satchel. Is Sarah super into the show “Vikings”? Nope. Not at all. What she is super into is drinking horns. We have many a fond memory of drinking with our friend Phil out of a giant animal horn that could hold about 15 beers in it. We would fill it and drink from it in some kind of totally unsanitary ritual of friendship. This is a man who had a bar in house that he called “Valhalla” so there’s that. So, now that Sarah has her own portable mini-horn she’s very excited.

Loot Pin – Gelatinous Cube Companion for NeverWinter
At the risk of repeating myself every single month, these pins are a massive upgrade over the previous little buttons. This one is a little on the “obviously geeky side which is a minor point against it (I’m always a fan of stealth geek apparel), but the true geek inside of me thinks it’s super bad ass. The Loot Pin bonus item is a Gelatinous Cube companion for the free-to-play NeverWinter game that’s out there. I’ve never played, but maybe I’ll start. And now I’ll have a jelly cube to keep me company!

Ok, full disclosure, I was going to change my t-shirt size up to a Large this month since I didn’t want a fantasy-based t-shirt to add to my collection. A Large sized shirt could be regifted to someone in my gaming group probably. I kind of figured they wouldn’t be able to top the cool D&D one from last year’s FANTASY crate anyways. Anyhow, I got my shirt change in too late so I got my regular size. And I was psyched to have made that mistake. Not only is Labyrinth one of my favorite films, anything with David Bowie on it is automatically cool (and a dope tribute) and somehow it’s in purple which also made me think of Prince. Triple threat t-shirt.

It’s a little poster. For Uncharted 4. As I’ve previously mentioned, wall space is at a premium in my home and my wife needs to approve everything that goes up there. This won’t make the cut. I like Uncharted, and this thing would definitely end up on my wall back in high school or college, but for me right now, it just doesn’t make the cut. Regift imminent. For reference though, this is the only item that wouldn’t really have fit into last year’s “FANTASY” Crate.

It’s socks like these that kind of make me avoid getting the Socks Level-Up from Loot Crate. I like me some fun socks with cool designs on them. But, as I am continually faced with in my day to day life, I am a grown man in my 30s. That means that my cool socks are limited to funky patterns and cool colours. Harry Potter references just can’t really find their way into my grownup wardrobe. Not when I’m wearing shirts with a bright purple version of Jareth the Goblin King anyhow. I need to pretend to at least be somewhat of an adult. Another re-gift I suppose.

Like I said, with swag from D&D, tabletop gaming, old timey accessories (horn this year, crown last year) and Harry Potter all accounted for, this is really the spiritual sequel to the FANTASY Crate. That’s not a bad thing. I generally liked everything in this Crate, and whatever I’m not keeping will make a cool gift for someone else who is more into the property than I am.
Oh, the one thing that I have a minor gripe with is this: I’m pretty sure Game of Thrones just started two weeks ago! I know there was GoT swag in last year’s Crate, but hey, there was also Harry Potter stuff. Where’s my GoT swag! Would’ve been a no brainer throw-in in my opinion.
See you next month!
