Hey! It’s the first week of March which means it’s obviously time to take a look at the February Loot Crate. Not sure what happened here but I seriously only got this crate last Thursday, took an extremely long time to make its way up to Canada.DeadCrate1

Anyways, no use crying about it. This month’s theme was DEAD and even though I try my best to stay spoiler free there was no avoiding the fact that there would be some Deadpool merch in here (the Deadpool cufflink subscription upgrade was the main tip-off). Of course, a new season of Walking Dead kicked off in February too so that was another likely candidate. Well, both those things were represented. In fact, they were basically the only things represented. Which was a bummer.DeadCrate6

Deadpool Tacos T-Shirt

Get used to me complaining about a t-shirt every month. This is a cool shirt. It’s got Deadpool and he’s yelling “TACOS!” It’s also not a black shirt so that’s always a plus. It is however a Deadpool shirt that is basically unwearable because Deadpool is just so goddamned everywhere at the moment I can’t bring myself to wear this shirt. Oh (incoming rant) and another thing: with a shirt every month you need to constantly check the measurements and change your subscription if you’re like me and you’re kind of in between sizes. This thing is Medium and is absolutely swimming on me (which is why it’s being worn by Sarah). Loot Crate’s “Small” has ranged from like a 17 inch chest to a 19 inch chest, that’s a big two inches on a smaller dude.

Oh, and is it easy to get to a size chart as a subscriber? Sure isn’t. You need to act like you’re going to sign up for a new subscription and then click on the size chart information for the most recent month’s measurements.

Anyhow, this is a cool shirt, but boy am I getting sick of shirts and it’s only February.

DeadCrate4Walking Dead Figurine

This thing looks like it might be cool. And I usually do love me some figurines. However, I’m keeping this in the package as it will get regifted. Otherwise I would dig just about any of the options (Rick, Daryl or Zombie) on my desk at work. Cool little figurines are my joint.

DeadCrate2Deadpool Q-Fig Figurine

Not giving this little bad boy away! While I may have a hard time wearing Deadpool swag out in public at the moment I still very much like the character. A little chibi-style Deadpool getting ‘sploded forward while dual wielding katanas is basically the best. Between this guy and the Batman that came with the HEROES 2 crate I’m glad we’re getting some cool vinyl figs that are not just from Funko Pop. By far the best part of the crate.

DeadCrate5Daryl’s Severed Ear Soap on a Rope

Uh, ok? This one is a real head scratcher for me. I think maybe because it’s soap? This thing really comes off like something you’d see at Spencer’s Gifts or something. I mean, it’s some ears on a rope like Daryl has in the show. I get that. But why soap? Is anyone actually going to use them as soap? I really can’t seem myself opening this thing up and then just hanging it in the shower. I kind of feel like it would have been a much better item if it actually wasn’t soap and was just a a prop replica of some severed ears on a rope. Like, by making it out of soap you’ve sort of made it less interesting to have around. Hopefully I can re-gift this to someone who needs some soap ears.

DeadCrate3Free Carl Character for The Walking Dead: Road to Survival Mobile Game

Valued at 10$! This comes from the Loot Crate pin this month. The pin itself is super cool and I’m really digging the new pins (vs the old mini-buttons). The thing that it redeems this month is Carl in Scopeley’s Walking Dead mobile game. I downloaded the game and played it a little bit and it really seems like one of those tapping games where you grind for hours and still eventually hit a hard pay wall.

Head out on missions, get weapons and loot, buff your little camp, repeat. Pay money to get the REALLY good stuff fast. Any game that values it’s unlockable characters at 10$ is setting off warning alarms in my mind. BlazBlue (one of my favorite fighting games) values DLC characters at 8$ and that means they’ve been fully balanced and tested into an extremely technical fighting game. Lots of animations, voice acting and play testing. And 2$ less than a little mobile game sprite.

I’ve been stuck in similar games in the past and a free Carl isn’t going to get me roped into this one. Even if I do just want to never deploy him and just yell “GET IN THE HOUSE” all the time.
Happiness: ♥ (but ♥ ♥ ♥ for the cute little pin)

Overall Impression:

This was a pretty good crate, it really was. The biggest problem I had with it is that literally the entire box came from two IPs: Deadpool and Walking Dead. The Loot Crate magazine has an interview with Rahul Kohli from iZombie, but there’s no iZombie swag. The Mega Crates had stuff from Death Note, Evil Dead and Plants vs Zombies, but there was none of that either. Hell, Ash vs Evil Dead just finished up its first season a month ago too!

I get that Loot Crate is aiming at fewer items that are higher quality, but their boxes are also supposed to follow a theme. This isn’t the Deadpool/Walking Dead crate, it’s the DEAD theme crate.

So yeah, diversity.

Next month’s theme is “DUEL” which seems very similar to COMBAT or BATTLE. Except you know, it’s only between two people.

My prediction definitely has some Batman V Superman stuff in there since that flick has a March release.

See you then,
