Look At All My Sh*t – December Loot Crate “GALAXY”
It’s the final Perspicacious Geek of the year everyone, next week will likely be my New Year’s Resolutions or something but for now, as we do every month, we will take a look at my Loot Crate. I’m watching the World Juniors hockey tournament at the moment, so I’m sorry if I’m a little distracted.
I think we all knew this was going to have some Star Wars swag in it, the theme was “Galaxy” and The Force Awakens was a promotional powerhouse going into the late December release. Of course, we knew it wasn’t going to be just Star Wars, but the theme was definitely going to be dominated by Sci-Fi related loot.
Let’s have a look.Galaxy Quest Patch
First of all, my bad for not getting a picture of this thing before gifting it to someone. So this pic is from someone else’s ebay auction. So like, if you want it you can go bid on it.
Anyhow, this was a very pleasant surprise. Galaxy Quest was a movie that always had a special place in my heart. Growing up, Star Trek was an important part of my family’s TV watching schedule. Galaxy Quest, basically being a zany sci-fi “what if” scenario that draws heavily from Trek was a film we went to go see in theaters. It still holds up too. Go back and watch it. Long time readers will also know my love of subtlety when it comes to geek wearables. This patch looks like a space-patch, maybe from a space camp or something. Either way, I dig it. I gave it to one of the biggest fans of the movie I know, otherwise I might have hung on to it for my bag.

BB-8 Socks
Loot Crate read my mind! I was literally thinking to myself at the beginning of the month that I wanted to branch out my sock collection. For too long I have been the slave of plain old black socks. It’s time to mix things up a little. Sarah got me a cool pair of socks for my stocking, and now Loot Crate gives me the joy of BB-8 in SOCK FORM. BB-8 is a great little piece of the new Star Wars, providing that adorable droid presence that R2D2 set the bar for without heading into “Super-D2” prequel territory. While I do think everything Star Wars is presently a little over-exposed, these are still dope socks. Only 3 hearts due to the fact that BB-8 is goddamned everywhere at the moment so these will make me look like a keener.

Space Ugly Sweater T-Shirt
I thought this was super cool when I saw it, a generic 8-bit ugly sweater style print with a space them. But then, upon further inspection, it got even cooler! The fact that it is clearly the Mars Rover and New Horizons in the image and not just generic spacecraft is a wonderful little touch that makes this t-shirt a definite keeper. Also, props to Loot Crate for bringing a little real world space exploration into what could have just been a sci-fi box.

Halo Ammo Box and REQ Pack
I’ve never owned an X-Box and I’ve only ever played the first one or two Halo games on the original console in multiplayer. So this isn’t for me. that being said, there’s no way that I can fault Loot Crate for including some Halo stuff in this crate. The series is massively beloved and has made a name for itself in the world of sci-fi space adventure in the past 15 years or whatever. The tin is high quality and I assume the cosmetic fun stuff from the REQ pack would be cool for a Halo player.

Funko Han Solo Bobble-Head
Ahh, the slavering fans of the Funko figurines must be exploding with glee. Not only a highly coveted Funko fig, not only of Star Wars but also of everyone’s favorite rogue: Han Solo. In a cool little coincidence, someone got me a Luke for the holidays as well. So now they can be bros. I do find it weird that it’s a bobble-head (and so is the Luke I got for that matter). Call me old fashioned by I don’t like my figurines to bobble. I am firmly anti-bobble. Otherwise, he’s a badass.

Well, that’s it for me for Loot Crate this year. Next month’s theme is INVASION which I guess means more sci-fi stuff but with a slant on the alien side of things.
Also, there’s going to be a t-shirt in each crate for 2016, which I’m not sure how I feel about. Do I need 12 new t-shirts? That’s too many t-shirts.
